Official Obituary of
Thomas DiCecco, Jr.
September 3, 1940 ~ June 15, 2024 (age 83)
Born September 3, 1940, Tom passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the age of 83. Born in Southern Chester County, PA, Thomas Jr. was the son of the late, Thomas, Sr. and Blanche (Catena) DiCecco. Tom grew up in Toughkenamon and Kennett Square, PA where his Parents and Grandparents were mushroom farmers. He graduated from Kennett Square High School in 1958. Living most of his life in PA, Tom then moved to Newark, DE in his later years to be closer to his three sons.
Tom had a love of music. As a young Italian American boy, he learned to play the accordion. Later he transitioned to piano and then to the organ. In the late 1950’s he played Bass in a local band named The Night Rockers. Later, as a side job, Tom played organ with a band in nightclubs and bars in PA, DE, MD and NJ areas. Also, at a young age Tom found his passion for airplanes and flying. As a teenager, he took lessons and earned his Pilot’s license from his sister, Lilian (DiCecco) Huber. He later earned his Commercial Pilots license and became a certified FAA Flight Instructor. Professionally, Tom was an entrepreneur at heart. He was the President/CEO of two successful Mushroom Cannery’s in Avondale and Oxford, PA. Their focus was taking locally grown mushrooms and canning them for Pizza Shops, Soups, and eventually Department Of Defense contracts for the US Military. In the late 1970’s when computers made their debut into the world, Tom found another interest and learned to program and build computers. Most family and friends can say that Tom has helped them with a computer issue at one time or another in the past.
After retiring and selling his mushroom business, he concentrated on Flight Instruction, Computers, riding his Harley and spending time with his grandkids.
Tom was predeceased by his Father and Mother, Thomas, Sr. and Blanche (Catena), His sisters, Lilian Huber of GA, Constance Peterson of FL and brother James DiCecco of FL.
Tom is survived by his three sons Thomas, III (Deborah Provenza), Robert W. and Stephen M. (Tara Ayers DiCecco) all three from DE. Tom has five grandchildren, Thomas E. DiCecco, Alison D. DiCecco, William A. Oberle, Nicholas S. DiCecco and Daniel F. DiCecco and one great-grandson, Thomas L. DiCecco.
